Sean Walsh, founder and director is also a musician and composer and was born into a traditional music family in Dunmore, Co. Galway. His father Tom Walsh was well known for his unique whistle playing having won numerous cups and medals at Fleadh Ceoil competitions to which he travelled the length and breadth of Ireland. He also played accordion, flute and fiddle and was a member of St. John's Ceili band along with his brother Paddy on concert flute, his niece Kathleen Flaherty (Fiddle/Accordion) and nephew Michael Flaherty (Flute/Accordion). Sean's mother Nellie Walsh was an established and much sought after accordionist who played for house parties and at all the local dances, she also wrote quite a lot of songs which have been recorded by various artistes including Sean himself.
Amongst her most popular songs were "My native Clonberne" and "The little thatched house" in which she relates to the way of life in her young days. "My old home town Dunmore" & 'The fair in Dunmore" also reminisce about the old days of cross road ceilis, fair days, markets and carefree times which have now all but vanished. Thankfully, songs of this nature take us back to those days of peace and contentment and we must always appreciate the rich legacy left to us by all the wonderful musicians and songwriters from older generations. Nellie Walsh is featured on a CD entitled "Sittin' on the bridge below the town" which is a three generation recording featuring Nellie Walsh and her two sons Tom & Sean, Seans daughter Andrea and Kathleen Flaherty.

The music which is available on the Trad Ireland catalogue reflects the authentic musical traditions and heritage of Ireland. The Trad Ireland archive contains a vast collection of over 300 recordings of various musicians, singers, groups, ceili bands, seanos singers and story tellers, but not all of them are yet available on disc. Many titles were previously released on cassette tape and vinyl and are now being remastered and released on compact disc. This process takes time as sleeve information, and photographs have to be sourced. The production of a quality CD album is expensive as it entails recording engineers, graphic design, printing of booklets and backliners and of course CD duplication, packaging, barcoding and royalties, therefore it would be impossible to release in a short time all the recordings which are presently on master tape, many which are unedited. Much of this work we do ourselves and we also offer this service to anyone who wishes to have recordings on old reels or cassettes, enhanced and transferred to disc.
We are constantly working on producing all the Traditional Irish Music recordings from our archive and also adding new and previously released cassette recordings to our CD catalogue.
We trust you will find something you like on our current listing and that you will become a regular visitor to our expanding catalogue of the very best of traditional Irish music and song.
